How Much Does a Hot Tub Cost to Run?

Running costs are the question we're asked most, and the honest answer is "it depends" — insulation quality, tub size, and how consistently you keep the water heated all matter. Well-insulated, energy-efficient models like the RotoSpa DuraSpa and DuoSpa ranges are built to reduce standing heat loss, which is the single biggest factor in ongoing running costs. As a rough guide, expect higher running costs from larger tubs kept at a constant high temperature, and lower costs from smaller plug-and-play tubs used more occasionally.

Plug and Play vs Hardwired Installation

Many of our hot tubs, including the H20 Spa and Wave ranges, are 13A plug-and-play — meaning they run from a standard outdoor socket with no electrician required. Larger tubs, particularly those with higher jet counts (60+ jets) or bigger footprints, may need a 32A supply and professional installation. Check each product page for its specific power requirement before you buy.

Choosing the Right Size and Jet Count

Our range spans compact 2-person tubs through to 7-person models with up to 100+ jets. If you mainly want a quiet, private soak, a 2-4 person tub with a moderate jet count is usually plenty; if you're planning to entertain or share with a larger family, the higher-capacity, higher-jet-count models are worth the extra investment.

Maintenance and Upkeep

All hot tubs need regular water testing and chemical balancing to stay hygienic, along with periodic filter cleaning or replacement. Foam tubs (like the Wave range) and hard-shell tubs (like RotoSpa and Canadian Spa Company) both need this upkeep, though hard-shell tubs generally have a longer lifespan with proper care.
